NAUGATUCK — The Board of Mayor and Burgesses this month approved an agreement with Greenleaf Energy Solutions, an Oxford-based lighting consultant company, to install new light-emitting diode (LED) lighting systems at the Naugatuck Police Department.
The work will be done under Eversource’s Smart Start Program, which allows municipalities to pay for the work over time with the savings accrued from lower energy costs.
The borough budgeted $75,500 for energy costs at the police department this fiscal year.
Purchasing Agent Robert Butler said the borough is expected to save about $370 a month once the retrofit is complete. He said the borough is expected to pay off the work in two and a half years.
According to figures provided by Greenleaf in the agreement, the borough is estimated to save $30,300 in electricity costs over a 10-year period.
Greenleaf previously retrofitted Town Hall and the firehouse on Maple Street, Butler said.
The town is also looking at installing new LED lights at Jesse Camille’s Restaurant and the Hop Brook Golf Course Pro Shop, Butler said.
