BEACON FALLS — Police arrested a Woodland Regional High School student last week after he brought a BB gun to school.
Region 16 Superintendent of Schools Michael Yamin said school administrators were notified in the morning on Nov. 20 that the student sent videos on social media depicting a handgun the night before. Yamin said administrators and the school’s security guards met the student as he came to school Nov. 20. He had a BB gun and a tactical vest used when shooting such guns in his backpack, Yamin said.
Yamin said the BB gun looked like a real handgun.
Police responded to the school at about 7:20 a.m., according to the police report, and charged the student with breach of peace and possession of weapons on school grounds.
Police also searched the student’s home and found no other weapons, police reported. No other weapons are registered to the student’s parents, police reported.
The student, who wasn’t identified because of his age, was released to his mother. He was given a court date of Nov. 30 to appear at Waterbury Juvenile Court.
Yamin said another student told administrators about the videos the student posted. Yamin said there was never a threat to the school. He added he’s grateful students take such matters seriously and realize the importance of telling administrators when they see something suspicious.
