NAUGATUCK — A Wednesday morning fire displaced all the occupants of a multi-family home on South Main Street.

Firefighters responded to a fire at 544-546 South Main St., a two-family home, at about 9 a.m.

Deputy Fire Chief Paul Russell said the fire started in the kitchen on the second floor, and firefighters extinguished it before the fire was able to spread.

Russell said the fire did extensive damage to the kitchen, and there was smoke damage throughout the rest of the second floor

An occupant of the second floor apartment was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation, but wasn’t transported to the hospital, Russell said.

No other injuries were reported.

Although the fire was contained to the second floor, both floors of the home are temporarily uninhabitable, Russell said. It’s unclear how many people live in the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
