BEACON FALLS — Officials say there were no students on board a school bus when it was struck head-on by an oncoming vehicle on Bethany Road on Monday morning.

Region 16 Superintendent of Schools Michael Yamin said the bus, driven by 46-year-old Kelley Lukeski of Prospect, was driving eastbound on the road, also known as Route 42, after its morning run to Woodland Regional High School.

State police say a 2001 Mercury Millenia driven by a 16-year-old male was heading the opposite direction, when the vehicle crossed the center line and collided with the bus head on, near 243 Bethany Road.

Both drivers suffered minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to Waterbury Hospital. Both vehicles were towed from the scene, due to heavy damage, according to state police.

The driver of the Mercury received an infraction for failing to drive on the right side of the road.
