BEACON FALLS — A rollover crash that closed Route 8 northbound at Exit 23 at about 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday was the result of a road rage incident involving two vehicles, according to state police.

One of the vehicles was a Ford Explorer driven by 42-year-old Stanley G. Smith of Naugatuck. He was traveling in the northbound direction when he lost control and rolled the SUV onto its roof, police said.

Smith suffered minor injuries and was taken to Waterbury Hospital.

Smith was conscious and alert at the scene, according to police. His SUV, which spilled its contents onto the shoulder, was towed from the scene.

The highway reopened Wednesday night.

Police are still looking for the other vehicle. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call the Troop I barracks at 203-393-4200.
