NAUGATUCK — Police are investigating a report of suspicious men who may have attempted to abduct two girls Wednesday afternoon.
The girls told police they were walking home after getting off the school bus at New Street and Hillside Avenue at about 3:10 p.m. when they spotted a white utility van stop near them, according to police. The girls told police that a Hispanic man, about 25 years old, dressed in all black with a beard and wearing a hat got out of the passenger side of the van.
The girls said the van looked suspicious and they got scared when the man got out, so they immediately ran away and told a resident they ran past about what happened, police said.
The girls described the van as a utility-type van with no markings on it and said the driver was a Hispanic man.
Police searched the area and spoke with residents but couldn’t find a van that matched the description. Police said they haven’t been able to get any information that corroborates that the girls were targeted to be abducted.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are looking to talk with anyone who may have witnessed the incident or suspect vehicle. Police asked anyone who was in the area of New Street and Hillside Avenue around 3 p.m. on Wednesday and may have witnessed anything to call the Naugatuck Police Department at 203-729-5221 or the department’s confidential tip line at 203-720-1010.
