NAUGATUCK — Police this week caught up with a 27-year-old man wanted in connection with stealing a car and burglarizing a home in July.

Police arrested Michael Moniz, of New Milford, at the Naugatuck Motor Lodge on Tuesday. The arrest stems from an incident that played out on July 23. Police say an officer observed Moniz driving a stolen vehicle on North Main Street and located him at the Sunoco gas station on North Main St.

Moniz eluded the officer on foot, according to police. Police believe he burglarized a home while fleeing. Police identified Moniz as the suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest.

Police found Moniz early Tuesday afternoon at the Naugatuck Motor Lodge on New Haven Road and arrested him there. Police said Moniz resisted and became combative while they took him into custody.

Police charged Moniz, who also wanted on another outstanding arrest warrant, with third-degree larceny, two counts of interfering with an officer, third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny, third-degree criminal mischief, two counts of second-degree failure to appear and first-degree failure to appear. He was held on bonds totaling $167,000 and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Wednesday.
