NAUGATUCK — Sandra Helyar Burton, 73, of Naugatuck, entered into eternal rest on May 11, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was born in Yeovil, England on Aug. 12, 1944, beloved daughter of Frances and Kathleen (Tucker) Helyar.

She was an active communicant of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Oxford. Sandra was a graduate of Summer Leaze Park High School. She received her associate degree in accounting from Gateway Community College of New Haven. She was a former accounting analyst at Helicopter Support Inc. (now part of Sikorsky Aircraft) of Trumbull. She was a volunteer mentor at Bungay School in Seymour.

Sandra loved to knit. She made and donated hats for cancer patients and prematurely born babies as well as other knitted projects for family and friends. Her passion was knitting garden fairy dolls and writing short stories to go with them. She was an avid reader and wrote children’s stories and a memoir. She loved being around her friends and especially her family. She will be forever in our hearts.

Her loving family includes her son, Lee Burton, and wife, Kim, of Seymour; daughters, Janet Burton and wife, Jennifer Drury, of Hamden, Gail and husband, Gavin Broatch, of San Diego, Calif., and Sarah Burton-Huebner and husband, Erich, of Beacon Falls; two sisters Julie and husband, John Watts, of Australia and Sue Willis of Bristol, England; brother, Terry Helyar and wife, Tina Free, of Bristol, England; and her aunt, Pauline Warr, and her partner, John Lacey, of Yeovil, England. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Christopher, Kayte, Patrick and Lauren Burton, Raven and Gwen Miller, and Britten and Mazie Broatch; and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 10 a.m. directly at The Immanuel Lutheran Church, 25 Great Hill Road, Oxford, with the Rev. Niki Harvell officiating. Friends and relatives may call on Friday, May 18 from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St. (Route 67, across from Klarides Village), Seymour. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
