PROSPECT — The Prospect Lion’s Club is reaching out to residents in the hopes of growing its ranks.

The club had about 60 members 15 years ago, said Paul Winterhalder, a member and past president. Membership has whittled down to about a dozen people now, he said.

The club is hosting a membership drive June 7 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Mirabelle’s Restaurant, 50 Waterbury Road. The evening will feature a brief presentation and dinner. People interested in attending are asked to RSVP by June 4 by email at prospectlions18@gmail.com. Dinner is free to the first 35 people to RSVP.

The club supports the community through a number of ways, including holding food drives, providing scholarships for students, offering fuel assistance to people in need, and organizing fundraisers, Winterhalder said. In the past, he added, the club has bought Christmas gifts for children who lost their parents.

The club also collects used eye glasses, which are distributed in third world countries.

Winterhalder said the club needs help to continue its efforts. Membership is open to men and women, and people from all walks of life are welcome to join, he said.
