A storm that ripped through the area last week has pushed back the last day of school in Naugatuck and Region 16, though the graduation ceremony for Naugatuck High School will go on as planned.

The Naugatuck Board of Education this week set Naugatuck High’s graduation ceremony for June 19 on the turf field at the high school, 543 Rubber Ave., starting at 6 p.m. If there is inclement weather, the ceremony will be postponed to June 20 and held outside. If there is inclement weather on June 20, the ceremony will be moved indoors to the gym.

This was the plan prior to last week’s storm. Naugatuck schools were closed for two days in the wake of last week’s storm.

While graduation remains the same for Naugatuck High, the last day of school in the borough will be June 21 for nearly every school. Hop Brook Elementary School’s last day is June 22. The school was closed an additional day this year due to heating issues.

The last week of school will be half days. It’s unclear whether graduating seniors will be required to attend school the two days after graduation.

Schools in Region 16, which is comprised of Beacon Falls and Prospect, were closed three days after last week’s storm. This week, the Board of Education set Woodland Regional High School’s graduation ceremony for June 22 at 6 p.m. in the courtyard of the high school, 135 Back Rimmon Road, Beacon Falls. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the gymnasium and tickets will be needed to attend the ceremony.

June 22 will also be the last day of school for Woodland. The last day for Long River Middle School and the two elementary schools in the region is June 25. The middle and elementary schools had one more day canceled for snow than Woodland.
