NAUGATUCK — The blossoming trees along Church Street can only mean one thing — it’s time for Naugatuck’s Downtown Spring Festival.

The festival is Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m. along Church Street and Old Firehouse Road. The festival was postponed from Saturday due to Tuesday’s storm.

Church Street, which will be closed to traffic, will be lined with vendors and entertainment on Sunday.

In addition to the activities on Church Street, there will be a car show along Old Firehouse Road, live music from the Rubber City Blues Band, carnival rides at the municipal parking lot, and a variety of local restaurants and food trucks on hand.

Parking is available at the Naugatuck Event Center on Rubber Avenue.

Mayor N. Warren “Pete” Hess started seasonal festivals in the fall of 2016 as a way to bring people downtown. Hess said the borough wants to ensure the spring festival, and all the downtown festivals, continue for a long time. He encouraged residents who have ideas on how to improve the festivals to reach out to him.

“We are trying to build a tradition that will gather enough strength to go on forever,” Hess said.

Hess encouraged people to swing by downtown on Saturday for “food, fun, frolic, music, and dancing in the streets.”

The spring festival kicks off the year of downtown festivals, which includes a summer festival in August, a fall festival in September and a winter festival in December.
Hess said officials are working to make the festivals better each year.

“The festivals won’t always be on Church Street. We will be moving around town over time and having festivals in other portions of town,” Hess said.

Editor’s note: The festival was postponed to Sunday after the May 18 print edition of the Citizen’s News, which reports the festival is Saturday, went to press.
