NAUGATUCK — The Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing this month on a special permit application for a UHaul moving and storage facility planned for the Crosspointe Plaza Shopping Center on Cross Street.

The application, which was submitted by AMERCO Real Estate Co., states the project will redevelop a roughly 52,735-square-foot vacant space in the plaza that was formerly the site of a grocery store into a new indoor public storage facility.  The plan also calls for 70 outdoor removable drive-up self storage units and a 20-foot-by-30-foot canopy for return vehicle inspections, according to the permit.

The permit states minor site work, including relocating curbed islands and light poles, and minor façade improvements will be done. No re-grading or changes to drainage patterns are proposed, the permit states.

The commission accepted the application last week and referred it to the Planning Commission. The Zoning Commission scheduled a public hearing on the application for 6:10 p.m. on April 18.
