NAUGATUCK — Police arrested a Naugatuck High School student Monday night after the student posted threatening statements on Snapchat.

The student’s post read, “School got me stressed out… I hate almost everyone and I gotta keep my attitude straight… (Expletive) teachers better watch out for me this week… I’m not putting up with any (expletive) this week so (expletive) just the teachers, everyone better watch it.”

Police were first made aware of the post at about 10:45 p.m. Monday after a screenshot of the post had been shared by a number of students. A Naugatuck High student made the initial report to police. This student provided officers with a screenshot of the post and identified the student who made the statements through a photo shown with the screenshot, police said.

Police interviewed the student who made the post and the student’s parent at their home. Police said the student admitted to posting the message while stressed out earlier Monday night. The student told officers that there was never any intention to threaten or hurt anyone, police said.

Police said there were no weapons inside the student’s house and the student had no foreseeable access to weapons.

Police charged the student with second-degree breach of peace due to the alarm created by the post. Police released the student to the custody of a parent pending a court date in Waterbury Juvenile Court.

Police said they received over 50 calls from parents, students and citizens who were concerned about sending students to school today due to the post. As a precaution, there is extra police presence at the high school today. Police said the need for additional presence over the next few days will be evaluated with school staff and the Board of Education.
