NAUGATUCK — A Wednesday morning fire displaced a family on Walnut Street.

Fire Marshal Robert Weaver said the fire department responded to a house fire at 73 Walnut St. at about 10:40 a.m. He said dried out wood shingle siding on one side of the house caught fire, and when firefighters arrived on the scene the fire had spread to the whole side of the home.

Weaver said a couple and a small child were home. They weren’t injured, he said.

Firefighters quickly got the fire under control, Weaver said, and the last fire unit left the scene a little after 12 p.m.

“It started to get into the walls, but they caught it in time,” Weaver said.

Weaver said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Weaver said the damage was mostly contained to the outside of the home. The family has been relocated, at least temporarily, because the electricity had to be turned off, he said.
