WATERBURY — Anthony Golebiewski, 99, husband of Janina (Szymanoska) Golebiewski, passed away at Waterbury Hospital on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018.

He was born in Poland on Jan. 13, 1919, son of the late Franciszak and Franceiska Golebiewski. Anthony endured internment in a forced labor camp under German rule during World War II. He managed to escape to Sweden where he met and married his wife Janina. Together, with their son Jerry, they immigrated to the United States in 1954, and settled in Waterbury. Anthony retired from Thin Sheet Metals after 30 years of service. He was a devout catholic and enjoyed gardening, woodworking and fishing.

Besides his wife Janina, he is survived by his sons, Richard Golebiewski of Woodbury, and Jerry Golebiewski and his wife, Laura, of Chicago, Ill.; his brother, Raymond Golebiewski of Poland; his four grandchildren, Christine, Robert, Anthony and Lauren; and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018 at 10 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, to St. Hedwig Church, 32 Golden Hill St., Naugatuck, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
