UNCASVILLE — Janet Lynn Gonski, 67, died unexpectedly on Jan. 17, 2018 at her home.
Janet was born in Waterbury on Jan. 20, 1950, the daughter of the late Joseph G. and Helen (Tarnowski) Gonski, Sr., and lived in Uncasville for the past 10 years. Janet was a dedicated teacher who taught at City Hill Middle School in Naugatuck for 30 years before retiring. She graduated from Naugatuck High School, attended Ladycliff College in Highland Falls, N.Y., and earned a Bachelor of English from Central Connecticut State University in 1972; she earned her Sixth Year Certificate in reading at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield. Janet enjoyed reading, old movies, TV celebrity history and volunteering at the Howard Whittemore Memorial Library in Naugatuck.
Janet is survived by her brother, Joseph G. Gonski, Jr. of Prospect; her brother-in-law, Steven Reed of Niantic; her nephews and nieces, Michael and Pam Gonski and family of Uncasville, Brian and Marcy Gonski and family of Milford, David and Debbie Gonski and family of Silver Spring, Md., John and Jill Gonski and family of Sandy Hook, and Stephanie Reed and family of Uncasville, and many cousins. In addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased by her sister, Judith A. Reed, and her sister-in-law, Sally A. Gonski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Everyone attending is asked to please go directly to church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours are Friday, Jan. 26, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
