CHESHIRE — The Chesprocott Health District is offering free radon testing to residents in its coverage area, including Prospect.

Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive gas released in rock, soil and water formed from the breakdown of uranium. It’s colorless and odorless, and the only way to know if a home has an elevated radon level is to test a home’s indoor air, the district stated in a press release.

Starting on Jan. 9, Chesprocott staff will visit homes on Tuesdays in January to place testing kits and provide radon awareness education. The testing kits will be picked up the same week of test placement on Fridays.
