NAUGATUCK — Beacon Hose Co. No. 1 applauded one of its own after she saved a woman’s life last week.

Beacon Falls Emergency Medical Responder Kristen Trzaski was in the right place at the right time when the car in front of her crashed on the Route 8 exit 26 ramp just after noon Jan. 15, according to Beacon Hose Capt. Cal Brennan.

Trzaski was running an errand for the fire house in a first response vehicle when the 2006 MDX Touring Acura ran through a stop sign and crashed into the guardrail in front of her, Brennan said.

The driver, Jessica Currier, 38, of Naugatuck, was unresponsive inside. The vehicle was locked and the windows were up, so Trzaski and another bystander broke the window.

Currier was barely breathing and Trzaski recognized the signs of a drug overdose, Brennan said. Trzaski quickly administered Narcan, a lifesaving drug that blocks the effects of opioids.

Currier regained consciousness and was transported to Waterbury Hospital for treatment, according to police.

Beacon Falls responders all carry Narcan in the ambulances and emergency fly cars, Brennan said.

“She’s not looking for any recognition,” Brennan said of Trzaski. “She did her job, just like anybody is supposed to.”
