NAUGATUCK — The Department of Public Works issued a reminder to residents of its policy regarding mailboxes damaged during snow plowing.

Under the policy, the borough will not repair mailboxes or posts unless they are damaged by a borough vehicle that leaves the road and makes contact with the box or post. Mailboxes must be at least 6 inches from the edge of the road.

The borough is also not responsible for mailboxes damaged by flying snow or ice from plows clearing roads, under the policy.

It is the responsibility of property owners to install and maintain mailboxes and posts in a condition that can withstand flying snow and ice, the policy states.

Upon request, the department will review any damage. For more information, call 203-720-7071.
