BEACON FALLS — The Metro Transit Authority Police Department identified the woman hit and killed by a train on Wednesday morning as 24-year-old Waterbury resident Caroline Cuebas.

Cuebas was on the tracks when she was hit by a northbound train on the Waterbury Branch of the Metro-North Railroad at about 8:45 a.m., officials said. She was struck north of the Beacon Falls train station near the entrance to the Naugatuck State Forest near Railroad Avenue and Cold Spring Road. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Metro-North spokeswoman Nancy Gamerman said Cuebas was not authorized to be on the tracks. She said the incident doesn’t appear to be an accident and there was no criminality involved.

At the time of the incident the train had about 35 passengers on it, Gamerman previously said. The passengers were taken by bus to the Naugatuck and Waterbury train stations.

Train service was suspended for several hours on Wednesday until 1 p.m.
