PROSPECT — A Prospect resident was selected as the new Miss Southbury at the Greater Miss Waterbury pageant on Dec. 17.

Micayla Barrows, of Prospect, won the title of Miss Southbury at the pageant held at Waterbury’s Rotella Interdistrict Magnet School.

“I’m pretty excited,” said Barrows following the pageant. “I can’t describe it. It’s been a long journey. This was my third time (competing for a title this year). Third time’s a charm.”

Barrows said she kept trying for a title this year, her first year competing, because “the (Miss Connecticut and Miss America) program is all about confidence and I’m ready to share my confidence.”

Barrows, a Woodland Regional High School senior, said she is looking forward to raising money for her platform — conquering childhood grief one animal at a time — as Miss Southbury.

“I’m so ready to get involved in the community,” she said.

Barrows will vie for the title of Miss Connecticut at the Miss Connecticut Scholarship Pageant in June at The Palace Theater in Waterbury. For more information, visit missct.org
