BEACON FALLS — The town promoted Tom Carey from assistant superintendent to superintendent of the town’s wastewater treatment plant.
Carey is replacing Walter Opuzynski, who recently retired after over 20 years with the town, according to First Selectman Christopher Bielik.
Bielik said Carey will be paid $32.92 per hour.
Carey has been with the department since 2011, when Opuszynski was promoted from assistant to superintendent.
According to the job description, Carey will be responsible for all aspects of the operation and maintenance of the sewage treatment plant as well as the subsequent collection systems.
The job description also requires that Carey put together a yearly budget for operations at the treatment plant.
Technician Steve Cherhoniak will step up to fill the assistant superintendent role, Bielik said.
Bielim said Cherhoniak will be paid $31.13 per hour.
Both Cherhoniak and Carey have been proactive during their time with the town, Bielik said, pursuing professional development and additional certificates for their jobs.
He said the town advertised for a new technician position in November and will be reviewing the five applicants and conducting interviews soon.
