NAUGATUCK — Norman Donald Smart, 88, of Naugatuck entered into rest on Friday, Nov. 17, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. He was the devoted husband of the late Alvera “Vera” (Bengala) Smart for over 47 years. Norman was born on Jan. 31, 1929 in Waterbury, son of the late Edmond and Rella (Pelletier) Smart, Sr.

Norman attended Leavenworth High School and later served his country with honor and pride with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Norman retired from Truelove and MacClean in Waterbury after 42 years of service.

He is survived by his sister, Doris Sargeleski of Texas; his sister-in-law, Joann Smart of South Carolina; his loving nieces and nephews and his cherished niece, Donna Deziel of North Carolina and her son, Alex of Waterbury; and by his loving friend and caretaker, Margaret Baldino and her family of Naugatuck. Norman is predeceased by his siblings, Beatrice Ricard, Shirley (Richard) Deziel, Edmund Smart, Jr. and Harold Smart.

Friends are invited to greet Norman’s family on Friday, Nov. 24, 2017 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St., Naugatuck. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury.
