Nadia Krawczyk, 94, wife of the late Slawek Krawczyk passed away Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017 peacefully at The Cheshire House in Waterbury.

Nadia was born Aug. 23, 1923 in Widbor, Poland (now Belarus), daughter of the late Tatiana and Thomas Matushok. She came to the U.S. from Germany in 1950 after WWII and settled in Waterbury where she and her husband became U.S. citizens. Nadia was retired from Uniroyal and UniSys. She was the matriarch of her family which she loved dearly. Nadia was creative and talented in preparing delicious homemade meals, sewing beautiful clothing, crocheting warm afghans and planting colorful flower gardens. Above all she loved her family which she unselfishly cared for.

Nadia was a member of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Church (St. Mary’s) where she was a member and past president of St. Olga’s Sisterhood and a member of St Martha’s Altar Guild. She graciously gave her time and talents to the church cooking wonderful ethnic foods and baking breads.

Nadia is survived by her son, George of Waterbury; her grandchildren, Eric Krawczyk, Eva Kawczynski and her husband, Mark, of Wallingford, Rachel Golebiewski and her husband, Gene, of Wallingford, Michael Matzkevich of Nashville, Tenn., Gregory Matzkevich and his wife, Mari, of West Hartford; and great-grandchildren, Ally, Ashton, Gunner and Genna. She also leaves her son-in-law, Bob Matzkevich. Nadia is predeceased by her daughters, Mary Krawczyk and Helen Matzkevich.

The family would like to thank the staff of Cheshire House Nursing Home and the staff of Season’s Hospice for their compassionate care.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 6, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in Waterbury. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Orthodox Cemetery, Stillson Road, Waterbury. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, followed by a Panikhida service to begin at 7 p.m.
