THE VILLAGES, Fla. — Mary (Spock) Gallagher, wife of Joseph G. Gallagher formerly of Sharon Avenue in Naugatuck, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017 after spending the last two and a half years in Florida.

Mary was born on Jan. 28, 1925 in Freeland, Pa. She was a proud WWII veteran, having served in the United States Marine Corp. She married Joe in 1947 and moved to Naugatuck and was a resident of Naugatuck for over 50 years before moving to Florida. Mary was a retired nurse from St. Mary’s Hospital and in retirement enjoyed traveling and gardening. She enjoyed planting gardens and thought of that as her therapy.

Mary is survived by her husband of 70 years and their five children, Sharon Taylor of The Villages, Fla., Joseph G. Gallagher Jr. and life partner, Marie McAvoy, of The Villages, Fla., Camille Sedor and spouse, Lawrence Sedor, of Naugatuck, Kathleen Nelson and spouse, John, of The Villages, Fla. and John Gallagher and spouse, Bonnie, from Cameron, N.C. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, Stacy Lederer of Lynchburg, Va., Scott Tomlinson of Augusta, Ga., Jason Sedor from Ansonia, Justin Sedor from Charlotte, N.C., Joseph Nelson from Manchester, N.H. and Katelyn Nelson from Lynchburg, Va.

Interment will be in the Florida National VA Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla. Donations in her memory can be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
