PROSPECT — The Town Council voted last week to join the city of Waterbury in a lawsuit against manufacturers of prescription opioids.
“I’ve seen what happens first hand,” Prospect Mayor Robert Chatfield said. “I carry Narcan myself with the fire department. We’ve had two deaths and 11 saves in the last 18 months in Prospect. There isn’t a day when I don’t pick up the paper and someone has had a tragedy somewhere.”
Naugatuck and Beacon Falls have already decided to join the lawsuit, which claims the pharmaceutical companies engaged in deceptive acts and practices, false advertising and created a public nuisance.
The town will pay one-third of any monetary award, plus out of pocket costs, to the law firm representing the plaintiffs, Simmons Hanly Conroy, if they win.
