Police searching for driver of stolen car involved in crash

NAUGATUCK — A man fled after crashing a stolen car at the intersection of Prospect Street and Locust Street Friday night, according to police.

At about 9:20 p.m., Naugatuck police responded to a report of a serious two-car crash.

An Audi driven by an unknown man was traveling east on Prospect Street when the car struck an Acura attempting to turn left onto Locust Street, police said.

The occupants of the Acura suffered serious injuries and were taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, according to police.

The driver of the Audi, whose identity is unknown, fled on foot, police said. The Audi was reported stolen in Waterbury.

The man was described by witnesses as a black man with an average build, wearing a white hat, blue jeans and white sneakers.

The Naugatuck Valley Collision Investigation Team, which includes officers from Naugatuck, Cheshire, Middlebury, Watertown and Wolcott, were called to investigate.
