NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck Fire Department has filled one of its top spots.

John DeBisschop was promoted from captain to second assistant fire chief earlier this month. He replaced Paul Russell, who was promoted to deputy chief in January.

Human Resources Director John Lawlor said DeBisschop’s salary in the new position is $92,971. He will remain part of the Naugatuck Fire Fighters’ Union Local 1219, Lawlor said.

DeBisschop, a Naugatuck native, has been with the department for 12 years. Since being hired, he has held the positions of firefighter, assistant mechanic, lieutenant and captain.

DeBisschop said he’s honored to be named second assistant chief.

“I think it shows the department has faith in my abilities. It shows that all the training and education I have undertaken in the last 12 years has paid off and hopefully prepared me for this position,” DeBisschop said.
