NAUGATUCK — Residents are interested in creating a nature center on borough property similar to the Flanders Nature Center in Woodbury and the Ansonia Nature Center.
The group is looking at a location either in Andrew Mountain Park or Gunntown Park.
“My reaction is favorable. I like the idea,” Mayor N. Warren “Pete” Hess said during last week’s Board of Mayor and Burgesses meeting.
Hess said the group has a calendar of events and all types of nature-related activates that they could conduct year-round. He said the group would start the center gradually and add more as community involvement and donations come in.
Hess said he is setting up a meeting with the Parks and Recreation Commission and Conservation Commission to discuss the idea.
“It’s a great idea as long as it’s not going to cost us money,” Burgess Rocky Vitale said.
The other burgesses agreed.
