NAUGATUCK — Police are seeking information on a suspicious man who reportedly tried to pick up a 16-year-old girl Monday night.
Police said the teen was riding a bicycle on High Street near Calvin Street at about 8 p.m. when the man approached her in a red Honda Accord and asked her multiple times if she wanted a ride. The teen said no each time, police said, and the man then told her he was an off-duty police officer, but he “did not have his badge on him.”
The teen then started to scream for the man to get away from her, police said. Her screams caught the attention of someone passing by. The person stopped to see if everything was all right and called the police.
The man was described as about 30 to 40 years old with a heavy Spanish accent. The car was described as a newer-style Honda with a dark-colored interior.
Police ask anyone with information to contact the Naugatuck Police Department at 203-729-5221 or the department’s confidential tip line at 203-720-1010.
