NAUGATUCK — Police questioned a suspect in connection to an incident in which a 16-year-old reported a man tried to lure her into his car on Monday night.
Police said the teen was riding a bicycle on High Street near Calvin Street at about 8 p.m. when the man approached her in a red Honda Accord and asked her multiple times if she wanted a ride. The teen said no each time, police said. The man identified himself as an off-duty police officer and told the girl he “did not have his badge on him,” according to police.
The teen then started to scream for the man to get away from her, police said. Her screams caught the attention of someone passing by. The person stopped to see if everything was all right and called the police.
Police said they interviewed the suspect, and the case is still active. Additional information will be released as soon as it is made available, police said.
Police ask anyone with information to contact the Naugatuck Police Department at 203-729-5221 or the department’s confidential tip line at 203-720-1010.
