PROSPECT — Two motorists were seriously injured Saturday afternoon in a head-on crash on Route 68 in Prospect.

Susan Jean Mariano, 68, of Manchester, was taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury on Saturday with reported serious life-threatening injuries. The other driver, Stephen P. Lombardo, 47, of Prospect, was also taken to Saint Mary’s with minor injuries, according to state police.

On Sunday, Saint Mary’s Hospital spokeswoman Fiona Phelan said Mariano had been transferred to another hospital. An update on her condition was not available. Meanwhile, Lombardo was described as being in stable condition.

Mariano was driving a 2017 Acura TLX on Route 68 around 3:47 p.m. Saturday when it collided head-on with a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Lombardo. Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage, according to police. The crash occurred between Dorothy and Laura avenues.

The airbags had deployed in both vehicles and both drivers had worn their seat belts at the time of the accident. The crash is still under investigation, according to state police.
