PROSPECT — A car is totaled, but no one is hurt following a fire early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters responded to 10 Murphy Road just after 3:30 a.m. for a car fire, Fire Marshal Keith Griffin said.

Firefighters quickly doused the blaze, and no one was injured, the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department reported on its Facebook page.

According to Griffin, the owner of the car, an Infiniti G35, told officials he was working on the engine and spilled some oil on it. The man went inside after finishing the work, Griffin said.

Griffin said the engine was still hot, which caused the oil to combust and start the fire. The fire was ruled an accident.

A tow truck driver and a police officer happened to be driving by at the time, Griffin said. The tow truck driver noticed smoke coming out of the car, and the officer called it in, he said.

The fire totaled the car, which was worth about $8,000, Griffin said.
