BEACON FALLS — The Board of Selectmen on Monday appointed Steve Leeper to the Board of Finance.

Leeper is filling the unexpired term of Joe Dowdell, who is facing criminal charges.

Dowdell was arrested on July 10 on a warrant. He is facing two counts of first-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault, three counts of illegal sexual contact with a victim under the age of 13, and four counts of risk of injury to a minor.

Dowdell submitted his resignation from the board in a letter dated July 11 citing personal reasons. The board officially accepted his resignation at Monday’s meeting.

According to the state Judicial Branch’s website, Dowdell has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him. The case is in the pre-trial stage, and he is scheduled to appear in court again on Sept. 19.
