NAUGATUCK — A benefit lunch this month will help a Naugatuck woman battling a kidney disease.

Rachel Perez, who works for Student Transportation of America and has driven a school bus in Naugatuck for about 10 years, is fighting Polycystic kidney disease.

The disease is affecting both of her kidneys and she has to have both kidneys removed, said Renee Reis, a family friend. She said Perez’s husband, Dan, has been tested and approved to be a kidney donor for her. The couple has five children.

A benefit lunch is planned for June 30 to help pay the family’s medical bills and daily expenses. The event, which will feature food, entertainment and a raffle, is from 12 to 6 p.m. at Hop Brook Lake. Tickets are $15 per person and free for children under 12 years old.

Donations of money, items to be raffled or food are sought to help the family and the event. To donate, email Reis at renee_reis@att.net. An event has been setup on Facebook under “Benefit lunch for the Perez family.” For more information, visit the event page.
