NAUGATUCK — Police warned residents about an internet scam that draws people in using a fake news headline about a murder in Naugatuck.
Police said the website “usanews1.club” circulated a story on social media with the headline of “MOTHER KILLED THREE CHILDREN IN NAUGATUCK.”
Police stressed the headline is fake, and no Naugatuck children were killed by their mother.
Those who click on the link for the “story” are taken to a website with a story about a mother murdering her children, then a popup box appears telling people their computer or device has a virus that can be fixed for a small fee, police said. Police believe the link is connected to a computer virus.
