NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck High School will retain its status as a fully accredited school for another 10 years.

The school district announced last week that the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, an accrediting agency that accredits public and private schools and colleges in the six-state New England region, awarded Naugatuck High School its continued accreditation.

According to the district, the accreditation renewal process “involved a self-study followed by a visit to the school by members appointed by NEASC who interviewed staff and parents, shadowed students and reviewed curriculum, teaching, assessment, policies, procedures, staffing, and the facility.”

In a letter addressed to NHS Principal Janice Saam, George Edwards, director of NEASC’s Committee on Public Secondary Schools, noted the committee “was impressed with many” of the school’s programs and services, including its “culture of collaboration among faculty members” and “commitment to offering students a variety of personalized learning experiences.”

School officials will be required to submit a two-year progress report, due on Oct. 1, 2018.

The entire NEASC visiting team report and letter to the school are available on the district website at boarddocs.com/ct/naugy/board.nsf/public.
