NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck YMCA will host a celebration on Tuesday to showcase its new Imagination Playground.

The playground equipment is a collection of custom-designed, oversized blue foam parts that provide a changing array of elements that allow children to turn their playground into a space to be constantly built and re-built by their imaginations, a press release stated.

The Dr Pepper Snapple Group and the nonprofit organization KaBOOM! awarded the Naugatuck YMCA a $13,200 Let’s Play Improvement Grant to purchase the equipment.

The celebration event on Tuesday runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the YMCA, 284 Church St. The program will be open to children ages infant to 13 years old. Infants through 5-year-olds will play from 9 to 10:15 a.m. and children ages 6 to 13 will play at 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Opening ceremonies will begin at 10:15 a.m.

“The Naugatuck YMCA is very excited that the YMCA will be able to provide this unique play experience to the children enrolled in our programs and to the Naugatuck community,” said Cathie Mauritz, development director for the YMCA, in the release.
