NAUGATUCK — The borough is looking for someone new to manage Hop Brook Golf Course.

Naugatuck recently posted a job opening seeking a golf course manager on its website. The position will fill the vacancy created when the Golf Commission chose not to renew Golf Pro Bob Clark’s contract after it expired in December. Clark was hired in May 2012.

One thing that made Clark stand out when he was hired was he was a certified golf pro with the Professional Golfers’ Association. Mayor N. Warren “Pete” Hess said the borough is not necessarily looking for a golf pro to fill the manager position.

“Basically we are looking for someone who has management experience, knowledge of golf, knows about setting up tournaments, people skills, and the ability to attract more players at course. It is not required that they are a golf pro,” Hess said.

Clark was paid a base salary of $600 a week during the course’s regular season, which runs from April 1 through Nov. 30. Outside of the regular season Clark was paid $15 an hour for any time worked.

The job description for the golf course manager states the position will be paid $16 an hour during the course’s regular season. The job is called seasonal and there is no mention of offseason pay.

Under his contract with the borough, Clark was able to sell golf-related items, such as clubs, shirts, and other equipment, out of the store at the course and keep the proceeds from the sales.

Hess said the store will now only sell essential items, such as golf balls, tees, and gloves. In addition, the store will begin selling hotdogs, hamburgers, and chips. All the proceeds from the sales would go directly back to the borough, Hess said.

Applications for the manager position are due by Feb. 10. Hess expects to have somebody in place by the end of February or beginning of March. The job officially starts on April. 1.
