NAUGATUCK — A fire following a New Year’s Eve party left a colonial-style home on Geraldine Drive uninhabitable for now.

Firefighters responded to a fire at 106 Geraldine Drive at about 12:50 a.m. on Sunday, Fire Marshal Robert Weaver said. People had just left the house following a New Year’s Eve party when residents noticed smoke coming out of the garage, he said.

The fire started in the garage and spread to bedrooms above the garage, Weaver said. The house sustained heavy fire and smoke damage, he said, and is currently uninhabitable.

Weaver said two people live at the house and there were children at the home at the time of the fire. No residents or firefighters were injured, he said.

The house is owned by Anthony Giordano, according to property records. Weaver said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Naugatuck Fire Department pulled a unit back that was assisting the Waterbury Fire Department with a fire at the former Risdon Manufacturing building on South Main Street in Waterbury to deal with the fire on Geraldine Drive, Weaver said. The Volunteer Fire Department of Prospect provided mutual aid at the scene in Naugatuck, he said, and Beacon Hose Company No. 1 provided coverage at fire headquarters.
