PROSECT — Long River Middle School is hosting a program next week designed to give parents first-hand knowledge into the issue of bullying.

The program, “If I Could Have A Do-Over,” is Oct. 11 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Long River, 38 Columbia Ave. The presentation is led by John Halligan whose son, Ryan, committed suicide in 2003 at the age of 13 due to bullying from classmates at school and online. Halligan will discuss lessons he learned from his son’s suicide on bullying, cyberbullying and teen depression.

Long River Principal Derek Muharem said next week’s presentation is geared for parents. Halligan will be back on Oct. 26 to give a presentation to students.

The program is an effort to give parents and students the resources to identify and address bullying, said Muharem, who saw Halligan’s presentation when he worked at Bethel Middle School.

“It’s a very powerful message,” Muharem said.
