BEACON FALLS — Project Purple awarded two grants, one for pancreatic cancer research and the other for an early detection protocol, to the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Project Purple, a Beacon Falls-based nonprofit organization, is dedicated to raising awareness and funds toward a cure and early detection for pancreatic cancer.

A $52,000 grant will support pancreatic cancer research, according to a press release. The grant will pay for one year’s salary for a designated research fellow at the medical center, researching a cure for the disease and working on a potential clinical trial.

A $140,000 grant will fund an early detection protocol program, the press release stated. The grant will help establish a new early detection protocol at the high risk pancreatic cancer clinic that is being established in the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center at the medical center.

“These two grants are a testament to the support from all those who have believed in our mission in the state of Nebraska, in particular the Lincoln Track Club. The staff at the University of Nebraska Medical Center are some of the best in the world, and Project Purple is excited to be partnering with them again on this new project,” Project Purple founder and Chairman Dino Verrelli stated in the release.
