NAUGATUCK — The public can get an up-close look at the newly revamped Early Childhood Center at Central Avenue during a ribbon cutting celebration next week.

The ribbon cutting is Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. at the center, 28 Central Ave. A reception will follow.

Upgrades to the center were completed this month. The center, which was previously known as Central Avenue Preschool, houses the School Readiness and Head Start pre-school programs. There are about 175 students at the center, which underwent a transition this year.

Traditionally, pupils in the federally-funded Head Start program for income eligible families were in different classrooms than those in the School Readiness program, which receives state funding and is for children in higher income brackets. Children whose families pay the full amount are also in the School Readiness Program. And pupils in special education programs are in their own classrooms. This year, for the first time, income eligibility doesn’t determine what classrooms pupils are in.
