Obituary: Ronald L. Zapatka

OAKVILLE — Ronald L. Zapatka, 75 of Oakville, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and comfort of his family on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of the late Claudette (Hamelin) Zapatka.

Ron was born June 13, 1941, the son of the late Joseph and Jeanne (Morytko) Zapatka. He was raised in Naugatuck and made his home there for many years while working for Uniroyal. He later worked as an Allison transmission technician for Bell Detroit Diesel in Middletown and most recently enjoyed his work as a co-owner of the Naugatuck Valley JumpBunch Franchise. Ronald was a member of the Roaring Thirties duckpin bowling league and a parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Oakville.

He leaves his children, Deborah Ungvary of Seymour, Donna and Don Hall of Naugatuck, Ronald J. and Sarah Zapatka of Oakville; and his beloved grandchildren, Kimberley, Alec, Nichole, Stephen, Devon and Joshua. He also leaves his brothers, Francis Zapatka and his wife Jane, and Eugene Zapatka and his wife Mary, both of Waterbury; sisters-in-law, Denise Hamelin Alden of Prospect, Vivien Hamelin and Laura Holewa of Florida; nephew, Alexander Zapatka, his wife Keisha, and great-niece Abigail.

Funeral services for Mr. Zapatka will be held on Monday, July 11, 2016 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Buckingham Street, Oakville at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Mt Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Relatives and friends may visit with Ronald’s family on Sunday, July 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the O’Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main St., Oakville.
