NAUGATUCK/BETHLEHEM — Mr. Joseph “Poppy” Corona, 84, of Naugatuck and Bethlehem, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, July 4, 2016 in the VITAS Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was the husband of Carole (Anderson) Corona for 55 years.

Mr. Corona was born in Waterbury on June 12, 1932, a son of the late Michael and Madeline (Aldino) Corona. He attended Waterbury schools. In his younger years he owned a service station in Waterbury and also worked at the Brookside Dairy and the Connecticut Water Company. He was retired after working as a millwright for many years at the Uniroyal Inc. Chemical Division in Naugatuck. He was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Naugatuck and a member of the Shepherd Salem Masonic Lodge. Poppy was a very special man. He treasured nothing more than his family and friends and had a special place in his heart for dogs. His favorite time was spent with his grandchildren. He had an amazing way of making anyone he was with feel as if they were the most important person in the world, and to him they truly were. Poppy also loved to laugh and got great enjoyment out of making others laugh as well. The greatest gift that Poppy will leave us all with is an abundance of memories that revolve around laughter. Poppy will be missed terribly but will live on forever in the smiles of all who knew him.

Mr. Corona proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Corona is survived by a son, Joseph Corona and his wife Sherri of Naugatuck; two daughters, Traci Fasano and her husband Ronald of Somers and Kristi Rice and her husband David of Bethlehem; eight grandchildren, Stephen Corona, Evan Corona, Joshua Fasano, Hannah Fasano, Abigail Fasano and Sarah Fasano, Mikaela Rice and Kylie Rice; two sisters, Agnes Corona of Waterbury and Rose Kubik of Watertown; an aunt, Josephine Nowak of Waterbury and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Corona was predeceased by two brothers, Mariano “Morris” Corona, Sebastian “Buster” Corona; and two sisters, Vita Saginario and Josephine Conley.

Mr. Corona’s family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the St. Mary’s Hospital Emergency Room, CCU and VITAS Units for the wonderful care that they provided.
