NAUGATUCK — Mr. Joseph “Jay” Carlson III, 53, of Naugatuck, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 20, 2016. He was the husband of Lisa J. (Curina) Carlson.

Mr. Carlson was born in Waterbury on July 31, 1962, a son of Joseph Carlson II and Rosanne (Lee) Carlson of Naugatuck. He was the owner of G&R Manufacturing in Naugatuck, and was a well-respected businessman who was active on many town boards and in many civic organizations.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Carlson is survived by three daughters and three sons, Jennifer Guneratne and her husband Alexis of Waltham, Mass., Elizabeth Carlson and her husband Ryan Hindinger of New York, N.Y., Kee Jung Carlson of Naugatuck, Joseph Carlson IV of Springfield, Mass., Matthew Carlson and his girlfriend Cece Sivori of Naugatuck, and Hee Mang Carlson of Naugatuck. He is also survived by a sister and two brothers, Patricia Ruprecht and her husband Clifford of Powmal, Maine, Thomas Carlson and his wife Ashley Tidey of Santa Barbara, Calif., and David Carlson and his partner Stephanie Crawford of Eden Mills, Vt., as well as several nieces and nephews. His first grandson is expected in August.

A private celebration of Jay’s life will be held at the convenience of his family. Per Jay’s wishes, there are no calling hours. The Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Jay’s name to a charity of your choice, should you wish to make one. Jay donated regularly to a wide variety of causes and encouraged others to do the same.
