WATERBURY — Roger J. Voghel, 93, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital (VITAS) in Waterbury surrounded by his family.

He was born in New Bedford, Mass., on Aug. 19, 1922, son of the late Hormidas A. and Marie Louise (Fortier) Voghel.

Roger was a very special person. He was kind and caring, and he enjoyed children, spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was loved by all who knew him, and will be missed greatly. Roger was a Navy veteran of WWII. He enjoyed watching baseball, and was an avid red sox fan.

He is survived by his two sisters-in-law, Lillian and Alice Voghel, also many nieces and nephews. Roger was predeceased by his nine brothers and his sister.

A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m., on Friday, June 10, 2016, at Colasanto Funeral Home, 932 Bank St., Waterbury, to Saint Anthony’s Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect, for a Mass at 11 a.m. Burial to follow, with full military honors, in All Saints Cemetery, Waterbury. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until time of service.
