DERBY — Anna Hanggi, 93, of Derby, beloved wife of the late Joseph Hanggi, died peacefully on April 6, 2016 at the Glendale Health Care Center, Naugatuck. Born in Ansonia on Aug. 8, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Alexandria Wolowicz Gluse.

Mrs. Hanggi was a lifelong Ansonia resident and a devoted member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church where she belonged to the Mother’s Club and the L.U.C. Mrs. Hanggi was an active member of the Valley Senior Centers and enjoyed knitting and crocheting, line dancing and bowling; but her passion in life was her family. Prior to her retirement in 1988, she worked as an assembler at Philips Medical Co. of Shelton.

She is survived by her devoted children, daughter, Patricia Ann Benevento of Virginia; son, Joseph J. (Barbara) Hanggi of Middlebury; sister, Dorothy Smith of Naugatuck; grandchildren, Joseph (Lisa) Hanggi, Robert Hanggi, June Marie (Mark) Charbeneau, Jean Ann and Robert (Angela) Benevento; great-grandchildren, Alexa, Tyler and James Benevento, Connor, Ryan and Anthony Hanggi. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Thomas Hanggi; son-in-law, Allan Benevento; three sisters and four brothers.

Funeral service will take place on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at 9 a.m. from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 105 Clifton Ave., Ansonia. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Interment will be private.
