PROSPECT — Mr. Richard Leon Fortier, 59, of Prospect, died peacefully Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born in Waterbury on July 27, 1956, a son of the late Lucien and Annette (LaMadeleine) Fortier.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. from 1976 until 1980. Prior to Richard’s illness he was a carpenter.

Richard was proud of being a very talented musician and song writer. He was a participant in the nationwide competition of the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival in Milwaukee, Wis., from Oct. 27 thru Nov. 2, 2014. He placed first in local, state and national.

He is survived by the love of his life Lisa Burns with whom he made his home; his son, Dylan Fortier of Prospect; daughter, Kristen Chaney of Brewster, N.Y.; brothers, Maurice and his wife, Anne, Lucien G., Denis and his wife, Patricia, of Prospect, Raymond and his wife, Cristina of Brazil, George and his wife Donna of Oakville, Charles and his wife Rosemarie, and Robert and his wife Dorothy, both of Spring Hill, Fla.; six sisters, Cecile, Diane Lauber and her husband William, and Anne Marie Burr and her husband Jerry, all of Prospect, Theresa Descault of Plymouth, Noella Mott of Waterbury and Helen Young and her husband Luis of Weeki Wachee, Fla. A very special uncle, Richard LaMadeleine of Atlanta, Ga., and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Leo J. Fortier.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect. Burial, with full military honors will be in Prospect Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
