Letter: Dionne has accomplished much for senior center

To the editor,

Bernadette (Dionne) is experienced, aggressive and with her persistence has produced many benefits for the Beacon Falls seniors and the (senior) center. Many of you are aware of these benefits that include the Wednesday lunch program, holiday celebrations, i.e. Thanksgiving, Christmas and St. Patrick’s Day and the money saving farmers market vouchers. We now have monthly birthday cakes and the $10 gift card as an added incentive to our monthly senior meetings.

Bernadette has worked on the tedious local and state grant applications to ensure renovations were completed at the center that included a new stove, tables and chairs and a much needed outside awning. She relentlessly pursued Beacon Falls local government for the institution of a crosswalk, a project very close to her heart, for the protection of the seniors crossing Main Street.

Bernadette’s caring makes the senior center and its members her top priority. This is evident by the retail, casino and cruise trip planning she constantly does. Further dedication to the center is shown by surrounding herself with a fair and positive board of directors.

As we look back at the past six years, it is evident that we have made many strides forward and we need to continue on the same path by keeping Bernadette, Al, Millie and Ernie as your senior board. Your vote is your voice.

  1. In response to this letter, Mrs. Dionne has been making an effort to upscale the services for the very small number of Beacon Falls Seniors that are members. She should be applauded for this. What I have heard that I find disturbing related to the upcoming election of officers is that Mrs. Dionne has been recruiting new members from out-of-town to stack the vote in her favor. For the first time in multiple years someone else is interested in being president of the Beacon Falls Seniors Organization. Like Ms Dionne, he also is not a resident of Beacon Falls. There is also a by-law that restricts members who have not attended recent events or meetings from voting in such elections. It has been suggested that I cannot vote because of this bylaw. How is it that new members can?
